the Westside Church Rebrand

The Westside Church is a church community following the way of Jesus in the west side of Los Angeles. The Westside is positioned in a multicultural and ethnically diverse area, that is a central hub for industry in tech, design, music, business and entertainment. Naturally they needed a brand identity that aligned with not only their surrounding community, but more importantly their mission to serve the diverse people that represent that community. This was a top to bottom rebrand; including brand guidelines, copy, a visual identity system, print signage, and website concepts.

Challenge

The branding identity lacked direction, and did not reflect the identity of the community or its mission. The visual identity didn't resonate with the newer members of the growing community. The Westside also didn't seem relevant in its location, which is a center for in tech, design, music, business and entertainment.

Results

We established the brand to represent a place of community and stability in the very fast paced and transient culture of west LA, where it can be difficult to foster long lasting, deep personal relationships. The new visual identity better aligned with the culture that the church represents, and signified a new stage in the life of the church after its emergence from the pandemic period, but was also still be familiar enough to the members of the community that have known The Westside as home for decades.
